Trees nourish the nature

You are now at the Saunankoski rapids (“Sauna Rapids”). The sauna by the shore originally belonged to Ströms Manor and is still used to this day.

The trees and shrubs along the shore are important for life in the stream. Leaves that fall from the trees nourish microorganisms that fish and other animals feed on. Trees that fall into the stream redirect the flow, which may gradually form a new bend in the stream.

Leaving the fallen trunks, branches and shrubs in the stream is good for the natural environment.

You might see foxes, badgers, otters and many bird species along the banks of the stream.

Yum, fat larvae!

Rotten wood is full of life, both on land and in the water too!

At the nearby allotment gardens in Riihenkulma, you might come across enthusiastic gardeners. Please walk only in between the allotments and do not touch anything.

Longinojan Puroaktiivit voit nähdä kasvimaalla nokipannukahveilla. Tule rohkeasti juttelemaan, me tarjotaan kahvit.
